To quote Rachel Ray, "Yum-O"!
Looking for sandwich recipes? Seriously, it's sourdough bread, fruit, and melted cheese. You literally can't mess this up.
My daughter might have chosen butterflies for her birthday party theme, but for the actual night when she turned 5? Grilled cheese, please.
I set up a grilled cheese bar, where every member of the family could choose what to put inside their sandwiches.
Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipes:
- Plain. Just cheddar cheese and bread.
- Brie with nectarines
- Apples, cheddar, honey and dijon mustard
- Avocado, Tomato and Mozzarella with balsamic vinegar
- Pluots and Brie
- Pears with Brie and cheddar
I know the picture says "5 New Ideas for Grilled Cheese" and the list above has 6, but I figured that a plain sandwich was *not* a new idea;)
Once assembled, I grilled them using my Le Creuset Cast-Iron Panini Press , see the nice lines...
and my flat reversible griddle. Had I thought about it, I would have realized that the griddle is *reversible* which means that the other side is a grill and all of my sandwiches could have had pretty grill marks on them.
Oh well, I'm not one to "shoulda, woulda, coulda" myself after the fact.
I've also done this as an adult dinner party with each grown up making and grilling their own sandwich, then I just pull out every nonstick pan I have and away we go.
Do you have any new takes on the traditional grilled cheese that I should make next time?
Jessica

What a fun night! And a great way to make grilled cheese more "grown-up" and a better option for dinner. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my this looks wonderful!! I loved grilled cheese sandwiches. It is so funny that you posted this because yesterday we were at a festival and they had a grilled chese booth there with every kind of grilled cheese sandwich you could think of.
ReplyDeleteOK, this is a terrific idea! I'm thinking maybe I could do this on the patio this fall and actually grill them on the grill? What you think? Oh, and when you make mine, it's gonna be 10 inches thick because I want everything but the dijon on.
ReplyDeletePinning so I remember. GREAT idea!

We are grilled cheese junkies at our house, so thank you so much for posting this. I recently used cheddar and thinly sliced pears for a grilled cheese and my kids loved it. Thanks for all the other options though, it will get us out of the plain grilled cheese rut we sometimes get in around here.
ReplyDeleteI love grilled cheese sandwiches, so thank you for this lovely post! I've added an olive tapanade to a tomato and cheese grilled cheese, and that was really good.
