Spice Drawer, it's almost like the pantry

The spice drawer is almost like the pantry, right? So if I organize it, then it will take me one step closer to an organized pantry. Or not. I'm just dawdling and I know it. Our spice drawer is just to the left of the stove, which is perfect since I can season as I cook. I love keeping the kosher salt in a ramekin (bottom right corner). It's accessible, but since it's in a drawer, it doesn't get gross.

Unlike some, I keep my baking spices with my cooking spices. I bake so often that I need the baking powder, baking soda and yeast nearby, not in the pantry (the door you see below). Plus, I do like to use traditional sweet flavors (cinnamon, allspice etc) in my cooking, especially if I'm making exotic food like a Moroccan Tangine or Chicken Tikka Masala.

When organizing I realized I had a jar of Paprika from Pathmark. That's a supermarket in Boston. Where I haven't lived since 2005. So, um, maybe a seven year old jar should be thrown out. Especially because I had another jar of paprika right next to it. So I had clearly meant to replace it when I went to Albertsons and bought their house brand. Except that Albertsons no longer exists. Not really sure how long it's been since they went out of business.... I'll just focus on how pretty everything looks.

  1. It would definitely help if I organized mine like that. Spices make me happy... I love it when I have a good recipe that calls for a lot of spices. So many health benefits from using them.
On a side note, Sunday night we got home from church and somehow my husband got distracted and rearranged every cabinet in our kitchen. So much so that he had to give me a tour afterwards! I lack those kind of organizational skills.

  3. My spices are kind of just all over the place--I love how neat this looks. Where did you get the drawer insert thing to organize your spices?

  4. My gosh, I'm simply jealous of your DRAWER! My kitchen is so old and quirky, I don't have a single drawer that size. *Sigh* Can I just live vicariously through you until we have the funds to remodel? ;-)
    Happy Friday!

  6. The drawer looks great Jessica! I have a ton of spices too,so my drawer is pretty full as well! I keep a basket with baking powder, baking soda, salt, vanilla and yeast in my baking zone so they are right there when I bake! Angie xo

  8. I love organization! And I love spices! Mine are arranged alphabetically on one of those step organizers, but I don't like having to remove the cajun spices and the garlic to get to the red pepper in the back. So, I'm really wanting to organize my spices in a drawer like you have. I think it will work so much better for me. Thanks for inspiring.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I love hearing what you have to say! Sometimes I'm busy chasing after the three kids who can walk, or feeding the baby, but I promise, at some point I'll get back to you and head over to your blog (if you have one) to leave you a comment too:)
