Baking my own birthday cake

Because that's what you do when you have kids. I even let them choose the flavor and decorations.

For the first year in many years, I had a birthday that actually felt like mine, not just a day given over to the kids. Each year, it seems that my children can sense the shift in attention, and they either act out, get sick, or I get sick, making the day wholly not about me. This year, I entered in with extremely low expectations and I was rewarded with a lovely day. I spent the afternoon baking a cake with my two older kids, then we ate it at home before my husband and I headed off to a grown up dinner.

If you missed it, check out the grown-up party I threw myself!

They are just pretending to lick the cake. Although was pretty close!

  6. I say let them lick cake!

One year I had a birthday party for myself and invited all my 10 year old daughters friends because she didn't want to have a pool party on my birthday which happened to be the only available day. They were each required to make a homemade birthday card for me. It was my best birthday ever!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I love hearing what you have to say! Sometimes I'm busy chasing after the three kids who can walk, or feeding the baby, but I promise, at some point I'll get back to you and head over to your blog (if you have one) to leave you a comment too:)
