Giant Scissors Wall Art- guest post from Morena's Corner

I am so happy to share this project with you. Morena is a blog friend who does amazing craft and DIY projects. She is awesome and I'm so happy to have her here to fill in while I'm on a blog-vacation!

Ciao, Stay at Home-ista readers! My name is Morena and I am delighted to have the opportunity to share a project with you today! I blog at Morena's Corner, where I share tutorials for projects that are fast and frugal, yet still look fabulous. I am a new homeowner and a mom to four kids, so you will find instructions for projects ranging from home decor items to accessories to crafts for kids. I hope you'll come visit my corner!

Today I am excited to show you a way to knock off an expensive wall art item by using paint and giant plastic scissors from the Dollar Tree.

Sold by Through the Country Door

My inspiration for this project came from Through the Country Door. I was looking for school themed wall decor to decorate the family workspace I am putting together.

I started with a giant pair of plastic scissors found in the toy section at the Dollar Tree.
I primed it with inexpensive white spray paint.
Then I taped off the scissors and spray painted the blades with Krylon's Silver Metallic Paint. After it dried I moved the tape and spray painted the handles with Krylon Black paint.

To make the blades look more realistic, I brushed on Deco Art's Crafter's Acrylic Paint in black and wiped it off. This is the technique I used to make my faux silver bowl. I think it makes the silver paint go from looking cheap to looking like real metal. I love this finish!

And there you have it: awesome wall art for a few dollars! Fast, frugal, yet fabulous!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I love hearing what you have to say! Sometimes I'm busy chasing after the three kids who can walk, or feeding the baby, but I promise, at some point I'll get back to you and head over to your blog (if you have one) to leave you a comment too:)
