Hanging our Wedding Canopy or (How to Hang a Quilt)

using hooks to hang a quilt

Let's just say that this was not our first attempt to hang our wedding canopy.

First, we tried to fold it up into a shadow box and hang it on the wall of the entry over the piano. The back of the shadow box fell out, the silk got shmushed up, and it was a total #bloggerfail.

New plan, we would hang it in the upstairs loft. We have a giant blank wall that needed to be filled and the yearly collage frames and heart art were already up there, so I felt like we couldn't do another gallery-wall-eque project. We needed something B-I-G.

Enter our wedding canopy.

My sister lovingly made this for us for our wedding 7+ years ago. She stitched 8 or 9 different types of silk together, creating a basket weave on one side and a starburst pattern on the other.

We had thought to use it on our bed as a coverlet after the wedding itself, but once we had our first baby that idea went right out the window:)

In our old house we hung it on a wall using nails, tying the corner ribbons to the nails. That wasn't' exactly the elegant solution this house needed, so we racked our brains trying to think of another way  to hang it up, without resorting to nails, or the grandma-reminiscent quilt hanger!

Thankfully, the Asbury Hook from Restoration Hardware is beautiful polished nickel, and matches with our bathroom fittings.

We measured, then my husband climbed up the ladder to get to work.

It's perfect in the loft, on a wall that doesn't see much kid-traffic since it just leads to the it-will-be-finished-by-Monday's-reveal guest room and stairs to the mid-update office, and it fills the wall perfectly.

Success!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I love hearing what you have to say! Sometimes I'm busy chasing after the three kids who can walk, or feeding the baby, but I promise, at some point I'll get back to you and head over to your blog (if you have one) to leave you a comment too:)
