Halloween Table Setting- Dyed Napkins #HalloweenRIT

As we all know, my table-scaping skills leave something to be desired, but when I received a package of RIT Dye, I knew I could bring a little bit of Halloween spirit to my October table.

I started with some white herringbone napkins that had seen better days. I think we've had these for over 7 years, and are down to only a few usable ones from our original set of 8, so why not bring a little color in?

I used a purple dye, a big, old pot that I didn't care about ruining (it was my first experience with dye, so I was super nervous) and a spagetti ladle for stirring:)

I added 1/2 a bottle of dye to a pot of hot water (make sure it's over 140 degrees) then brought the whole thing up to a simmer.

In the meantime, I got the napkin wet with the insta-hot water from our kitchen sink.

Then added the napkins, and stir, stir stir. Seriously, keep going. And going.

I did a test with a paper towel for color, but it says to leave it for about 30 minutes and keep on stirring.

The next part freaked me out, pour out the dye bath and rinse the napkins with progressively cooler water. Since I adore my white kitchen sink, I carried the whole thing upstairs to the laundry room and the stainless sink I wasn't as worried about. Turns out, I had nothing to worry about, the dye rinses right off the sink, phew!

Rinse, rinse, rinse.

Then I hung them up to dry over the sink.

And look how perfectly they go with my black tablecloth and orange Jack-o-Lantern:)

The whole thing was much easier than I had expected, so maybe I'll do a rainbow of napkins next!

  7. Pretty! I'm always afriad to dye fabric because I'm worries it'll be uneven, but yours came out perfect!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I love hearing what you have to say! Sometimes I'm busy chasing after the three kids who can walk, or feeding the baby, but I promise, at some point I'll get back to you and head over to your blog (if you have one) to leave you a comment too:)
