Light Switch Labels

Yes, you saw that right, I label my light switches. Even though it's my house. That I live in. That I designed. The house where I decided where to put every light and every light switch. I still need the labels. And if I need them, you can only imagine how much my husband and everyone who visits needs them.

The Living room alone has a 4-gang plate for outer down lights, accent lights, passageway lights, and the outlets under the sofas that might eventually attach to lamps when we stop having kids so I'm not worried about a child bringing a lamp crashing down on their heads. Was that a run-on sentence? There is also a switch for the 4 pendants, which are too high of a wattage to be on a gang-plate with other lights. Plus we have two switches for the UV shades (inner and outer shades).

That's why we label the light switches, so anyone can turn the lights on or off, and so that I don't induce seizures in our children each time I'm trying to turn on one light in particular.

That's a lot of light switches! I have trouble with just two in my bathroom... I can't imagine having that many. I bet provides some incredible lighting though. Lighting can make or break a room.

I don't think I'd want the distraction on my own switch plates, but I think this is a good idea to employ when I place my home on the market. It could help the real estate agents when they want to show the house. The new owners wouldn't have to wonder what they are turning on and they can remove or leave the labels when they see fit. :-)

I do not have rocker switches now, but when I did, I labeled them as you did..so great!..especially when you have a row of 4 and can never remember which one is which, or switch!.. Great idea to present!!

I did this, too! In a house I designed and have lived in for the last 5 years. Ha! It has been nice to always be able to tell which light I'm turning on instead of turning on and off 4 before finding the right one.

I labeled switches in a previous house and it's so handy. Thanks for the reminder.

I also label my switches- A used a black sharpie and my very own swirly cursive hand writing- I quite like how they turned out-
