Camping on the Deck

If you ask my husband, he will vow that I have never spent a night outside in my life.

Of course he believes, in theory, that I attended summer camp, where we *might* have gone backpacking.

Still he just doesn't see it.

Once the weather stopped being crazy hot, I took advantage of the crisp fall air to have a family sleep-out, camp-out, um... have us all sleep outside (minus the baby who stayed in her crib).

First order of business was to get sleeping bags. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime, 2 days later we had 4 sleeping bags ready for us.

Then we rearranged those fort-making couch cushions outside into two beds for the kids and used yoga mats for us.

The little ones loved the adventure of sleeping outside, although it was too foggy to see any stars.

Our 3 year old just jumped around for an hour, refusing to get in his sleeping bag until we finally took him inside.

Our five year old lasted another hour, until the sound of the wind in the paper chains, was too noisy, and we retreated to the warmth and relative quiet of the house.

Next time I'm borrowing a firepit and making s'mores out there:)

I guess I'm not surprised that they didn't make it ... the darker the skies the less comfortable the little ones become! But I absolutely vote for smores next time!

:)

Ha! Andy can't wait to take Weston camping and I'm thinking it wouldn't last very long for us either. :)

What a fun idea! Much better than "roughing it" :)

Well now you have sleeping bags, you'll find a way to use them even if it's camping indoors BY the deck.

This looks so fun! (Even better that you didn't have to stay out there all night ;))

You should totally do smores next time, can't camp out without smores!

That's actually not a bad idea at all. It's still camping and fun, plus we don't have to spend on gas for our campervan adelaide.
