Lemonade, from scratch

Start with lemons. Obviously.

lemons for homemade lemonade

Our lemon tree on the side of our house appears to be the only one of the four citrus trees we planted that is bearing any fruit.

Now juice the lemons.

9 lemons yielded almost 2 cups of juice for us.

Then make a simple syrup. Put 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water into a pot, bring it to a boil, and let it cool.

Put lemon juice into a pitcher or beverage container (this one is new from Target). Add 1/2 the simple syrup and fill halfway with water. Stir and taste. The exact mixture is up to your taste buds, I like my lemonade fairly tart and sweet, so in the end we used all of the simple syrup, the almost 2 cups of lemon juice, and about 14 cups of water.

Gratuitous shots of children drinking lemonade:)

How neat that you have a lemon tree in your yard! Do they get very big? Hopefully, someday we will be able to have some type of garden.

I have a giant lemon tree in my backyard, but to date in the four years we've lived in this house I have not made lemonade! I think I need to do that soon, like tonight!

Visiting from Fox Hollow Cottage ~ congrats on being the Newbie Spotlight!!!

Yummy! Now, if the weather would just warm up a bit here on the EC so we can refresh ourselves with this wonderful beverage! :)

Homemade lemonade is the best! Your kids seem to be enjoying it too! You are so lucky to have a lemon tree.

Hi Jessica- I found you through Shannon and a happy to be your newest follower. I am sooo jealous that you have fruit trees. I used to live in FL and had all sorts of lemon and lime trees. Now that I live in WI it seems the only thing that grows around here that provides liquid refreshments are cows!
Happy Wednesday- xo Diana

Ohhhhhh my! I don't think I've ever had from-scratch-lemonade. I need to fix that immediately because my mouth is watering!

You forgot the most important ingredient - vodka!

My daughter rocked orange crocs last year - goes with your sons new table!

I love fresh lemonade and how lucky you are to have your own tree and taste testers (they are precious!). I'm very thirsty now :)

Yum, I LOVE fresh squeezed lemonade. I'm willing our meyer lemon tree (well more like a bush) in the backyard to grow more lemons! It's definitely lemonade season around these parts!

My lemon tree is only 12 months old and I fear I might be waiting a few more years for any fruit :( There's nothing better than home made lemonade, just the look on the kids faces says it all :)

How lucky to have that beautiful tree growing in your back garden! Nothing reminds me more of summer than fresh lemonade!

YUM!! I'm so impressed by your lemon tree that actually produces lemons! I wish it would have a chat with the non-apple-producing apple tree in my yard.
