Attempting to Take a Family Portrait

With three kids, it's pretty much impossible to take a picture.

Usually we get one at our daughter's birthday party in August, but this year, nada. So last week we tried again, this time with a tripod.

Obviously I couldn't take a picture of the camera ON the tripod, but you get the idea.

I just kept snapping...

Until we found one we think will work.

Any good photography tips for families with small, squirmy kids?

It is so hard to take a pic of your kids with a tripod. We usually only get good pics if we have someone else there to get their attention on the other side of the camera. You have a beautiful family!

our camera (not fancy) has a setting that takes 3 pictures in a row. So we use that for family pictures. Obviously we take many, but usually with the 3 pictures at the time, we are able to catch one that is nice :)

I can totally relate! You have a beautiful family. I agree that, when possible, having someone else there (even if they are not taking the picture) can help get the kids' attention at the same time.

You embrace the squirm and realize that the imperfections are what make the portrait perfect.

As mom of 6 with nary a good family photo, my advice is to embrace the quirkiness. Someday they really will laugh about it.

Saw Kirby's comment after I posted.... see we old mommies know what we are talking about, either that or great minds think alike.

I agree with the others...embrace the imperfections...that is the true picture of your family at this stage! I would like to say it gets better when they are older but that is not always true. You should see some of the pics I have of my teenage boys/goofballs!
